We
spent a year and a half and looked at 45 potential vineyard sites
before deciding on our vineyard position
The
site had an easterly facing aspect to catch the first morning
sun ideal for ripening grapes and reducing frost risk. A gentle
slope on the site ensures some air movement that reduces the incidence
of damaging frosts. The property is situated on the red cambrian
soil vein that runs north from Heathcote along the western side
of the northern Highway which are highly prized.
Our site only averages 580mm of rain annually so the clay subsoils
were ideal for retaining some of the precious little rainfall.
Being situated on the Northern Highway makes us easy to find.
